From the Satucket Lectionary

Robert McDonald was born in 1829 in what is now Manitoba, Canada. He began missionary work there among the Ojibwe in 1853, but was sent to the Yukon in 1862, being the first Protestant missionary assigned there. His initial station was at Ft. Yukon, which is now part of Alaska.

He spent the rest of his career working among the natives of the Yukon and Northwest Territories, and is most remembered for his translation work. His translation of the Book of Common Prayer into Gwich’in is online.

He retired in 1905 to Winnipeg, and died there in 1913.

A biographical sketch may be found in Leaders of the Canadian Church. The entire book id available at the Internet Archive.
